In order to qualify for federal aid and for most state and institutional aid, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This document will determine if you are eligible to receive federal student aid from grants, loans and work-study programs.
What are the steps in applying for aid using the online FAFSA?
- Get A PIN….Before beginning the FAFSA, you should apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. This will allow you to sign your FAFSA electronically and to correct your processed FAFSA online. If you are providing parent info on the FAFSA, on of your parents must also sign your application. To sign electronically, your parent must also apply for PIN.
- Gather The Information Required To Apply…
- Your and your parents’ Social Security numbers
- Your driver’s license number if you have one
- Your alien registration number in you are not a U.S. citizen
- Federal tax information or tax returns
- Records of untaxed income
- Be Aware Of Deadlines
- Use The FAFSA In the Web Worksheet
- Complete Your Application At www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Submit Your Application
- Follow Up on Your FAFSA
- After your application has been processed you will receive an e-mail with a link to your Student Aid Report (SAR).
- If you did not provide an e-mail address, you will receive your SAR by mail.
- You may then check your FAFSA at any time.
