Señora Rivas

Mi Biografía

Hola a todos! My name is Shantal Rivas. I was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and migrated with my family to the United States at the age of 12. I went to Sierra Vista Junior High and Canyon High School. I am a true cowboy! In High School, I had a very influential Spanish teacher, Señor Edwards, who encouraged me to further my education and teach. After graduating High School in 1997, I went to College of the Canyons and received my Associates Degree in Humanities. In 1999 I transferred to Cal State Northridge and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish (Language and Culture) and teaching credentials. Right after I graduated from CSUN in 2001, I taught for the very first time at Mint Canyon Elementary. As time went by, I continued to teach higher grade levels and realized that teaching older students fulfilled me the most. In 2005 I was given the opportunity to teach at Canyon. I must admit that it has been the best teaching experience. I enjoy guiding, learning, and laughing with my students. Aside from being a teacher, I am a wife and a mommy. I enjoy spending most of my time at home with my family. I like to listen to Spanish music, especially Reggaeton. Most of all, I love kids and take pleasure in sharing my knowledge with them.
