This course orientation has been prepared to communicate the expectations, course content, course requirements, policies and any other information that will give you the opportunity to achieve and have a positive learning experience. INTRODUCTION TO COURSE

This is an elective course that will show the student how to use a video camera, edit video tape, evaluate video and film, and write a script.

SUPPLEMENTAL CONTRIBUTION

There will be a materials donation fee of $15.00 per pupil for this class. This will be used to purchase digital videotapes, batteries and other equipment.

Each student who donates $15.00 will receive a videotape to keep his/her video projects on.  This will act as a video portfolio.

 

GRADING SYSTEM

Students will receive a grade based on their participation and application of skills learned, (including but not limited to video projects they must complete) as well as written assessments of their knowledge.

A = 90% - 100%; B = 80% - 89%;C – 70% - 79%; D = 60% - 69%; F = 59%

 

HOMEWORK

The only major homework assignment will be a 4 page essay on the movie, “King Kong.” NO LATE HOMEWORK ACCEPTED. Note: Video production is a field that involves working with others as a team.  While students have some individual work, most projects will involve students working as a team for a grade. Students will be allowed to pick their partners, although occasionally I will assign students to a team.

 

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOUR & MANAGEMENT

·        Use utmost care when using camera, editing equipment, or any other video equipment.     

·        No food or drink allowed in classroom.

·        Students must be “on assignment” to leave classroom.

·        Do not disturb other classrooms while making your video.

·        All videos must be “school appropriate”.

·        The camera is to be used only for assignments.

·        Be in your assigned seat and ready to work when the bell rings.

·        Be courteous and respectful to the teacher and other students

 

Note:  please be aware that anything you video tape that is not “school appropriate” can be shown to your parents and the school administrators.

 

ATTENDANCE & TARDY POLICY

Canyon High School’s policies will be used and enforced. Every student and parent should become familiar with these policies.  If a student is tardy to my class, they will be sent to the registration desk for a tardy readmit slip.
