School-Wide Writing Prompt

Moving to a foreign country could be an exciting experience. However, having to attend a new school in a foreign country might be a daunting experience. Think about how you would feel if your family decided that you would now live in a Spanish speaking country and you would have to attend school.

Some areas that could be challenging:

• Taking a test in Spanish. (standardized test, end of year test that determines whether or not you pass to the next grade level)
• reading literature in Spanish for Spanish class (like you do in your English class)
• navigating your way through PE class (locker room?)
• playing a sport (soccer) with your new Spanish speaking friends
• calling people on the phone
• socializing with your new Spanish speaking friends
• adjusting to a different time schedule for activities, eating, etc
• adjusting to taking many subjects at one time
• asking your teacher questions during class or after class
• using the library in your new school

Write a five paragraph essay which describes the challenges that you face in a new school in a Spanish speaking country. Think about three main areas of school life that you would find demanding and difficult since you would now be immersed in Spanish. Keep your challenges specific and focused, with good description.
