Overview:
U.S. history is a high school requirement for graduation. Each student must pass two semester of U.S. history in order to graduate.
Classroom Expectations:
For all students to achieve in class, the environment must be conducive to learning. Overt acts of defiance, misbehavior, or behavior that interferes with the education of others or threatens the safety of students or teachers in the classroom will not be tolerated and may result in suspension.
U.S. History Course description:
This course is designed to inform students about who they are as citizens of the United States and how past events have shaped the world we live in today. We will concentrate on the following historical periods: Colonization of America, Constitutional period, major events of the 19th century, World War I, the Depression, World War II, the beginning of the Cold War, the 1960's, and the last 30 years.

Textbooks and Other Materials :
Students will be issued a textbook from the library, which they must bring everyday. We will be using supplementary materials as well.
Extra Credit::
Students are to choose an article from the newspaper dealing with economic news, world politics, U.S. politics, government, national news stories, U.S. and World events, and local stories related to the city of Santa Clarita. Next, they are to read the article, cut it out from the news paper and write a 10 sentence summary of the article. They must then staple them together and turn them into me .

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES: The teacher will do almost anything possible to ensure that learning happens and that the learning is directed at the above objectives. Instructional procedures might include any or all of the following techniques.
- Assigned Reading, Student Activities, Cooperative Groups,
- Group Interaction, Text book Reading, Student Teaching,
- Discussion, Videos Projects,
- Guest Speakers, Lecture, Lecture/Discussion,
- Independent Study, Research Internet,
- Interviews, Oral Presentations.
Grading Scale:
Students who do all of the required will will be graded based on
the following scale. It is possible for a student to pass one quarter
and fail in the other quarter.
"A+"=99%-100%
"A" =93%-98%
"A-"=90%-92%
"B+"=87%-89%
"B" =83%-86%
"B-"=80%-82%
"C+"=77%-79%
"C" =73%-76%
"C-"=70%-72%
"D+"=67%-69%
"D" =60%-66%
"D-"=57%-59%
Grade of Fail (F)
Grades of Fail will be earned by those students who:
1) Earn below 57%; and/or
2) Do not do all the work required; and/or
3) do not follow the school's attendance policy
What Will Grades Be Based On?
There will be approximately four unit tests each semester and a Final Examination . Grades will also be based Final Exams, Paragraphs, Essays/Reports, Projects, and Oral Presentations and the like.. Note: Grades are based on a pure point system.
Classroom and School Rules:
(failure to follow these rules will result in classroom and school consequences) Classroom defiance is unacceptable.
1) No student at any time may put his head down and sleep during class.
2) No food or soda is allowed in the classroom.
3) Students will remain in their assigned seats during class.
4) No cell phones, IPODS, text messaging or use of any head phones.
5) Students should not open cabinets, drawers, or touch things that do not belong to them.
6) No hoods or hats may to worn in class.
7) If a student is asked to change seats he or she must move.
8) Students will use polite and respectful speech. NO PROFANITY for any reason.
9) Student will not put on or apply makeup or take out a mirror during class.
10) Students will immediately enter the classroom and take their seats at the bell.
