Mr. John Bartke has been a teacher at Canyon High School since the 2000-2001 school year. Currently he is teaching both English 11 - American Literature and United States History.

Biography: Mr. Bartke was born in California, the youngest of six children. He is a 1974 graduate of the University of California, Berkleley with a BA in Political Science and holds three Master's Degrees including a Master of Arts degree in History "With Distinction" from California State University - Northridge, a Masters in Arts in Education and a Masters Degree in Divinity. Mr. Bartke was a 1999 Los Angeles County "Teacher of the Year" and the 1998 Antelope Valley High School District "Teacher of the Year".

For three summers Mr. Bartke worked for the National Park Service and the Natchez Courthouse Project in Natchez, Mississippi. He has also worked as a research assistant for three PBS special programs and their companion web-pages, including www.jimcrowhistory.org, www.slaveryinamerica.org and supremecourthistory.org

Mr. Bartke is married has lived in the Santa Clarita Valley since 1989. He has four children two of which are in college (and working) and two are serving in our nation's armed forces. He is active as an AYSO referee and is a member of his local Referee Council. In addition, he is a history instructor at Chapman University and has taught many history classes at the College of the Canyons. He enjoys traveling and the photo (above - left) is from his 2007 summer trip to Ireland.
