American Lit Folders
Each time a classwork or homework assignment is turned in, it is scored and returned to the student with a green
number on it. At this point the score has not been recorded; the student must
keep the paper for three weeks maximum. Every third Friday all papers are placed in a folder and submitted
for a single composite grade covering the three week period.
Therefore, the question “Is
student X missing any assignments” is one that I am not able to give specific
answers to. The general rule-of-thumb would be that higher folder scores would
indicate that assignments are being turned in and lower folder scores would
indicate the possibility of missing assignments. But even then it’s not that
simple because some students will receive higher scores, some lower, on any
given assignment. So a folder score is a combination of, on one hand, doing the
work to begin with and, on the other hand, the scores received on the
assignments.
For many, these summary,
composite scores are good enough. However, if you would like to keep closer
tabs on classwork and homework completion, that can
be done in two ways.
Listed below are the classwork and homework assignments that belong in the
folder collections. The number after the dash is the number of points possible,
though sometimes this number is more of an estimate than an exact number.
