Class Description:  

In this course, students will continue to explore the fascinating world of American Literature. Through lecture, discussion, and readings, students will discover the changing patterns of American thought. Students will encounter new authors and perhaps get reacquainted with some that they have previously read. They will continue to develop their composition skills and to build their vocabulary.

Course Outline:

This course will be literature based and will be a writing intensive course. Our discussions, lectures, and writing assignments will be derived from what we read in and out of class. Throughout the course we will read short stories, poems, lyrics, articles and various novels. The novels include:   The Crucibleand   The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. In addition, students will complete an array of extensive essays employing technology, literature and historical context. Students will also view films and utilize technology as it pertains to the curriculum. Students will delve into the historical context of American authors and the authors’ lives. Students will be responsible for vocabulary and composition as it pertains to the literature and historical facets of this course.
